According to the Government of South Africa, the Durban International Convention Centre is ready to accommodate all Delegates as usual, despite recent flooding in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

A warm welcome

The International Convention Centre is safe. Visitors to the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour will enjoy world-class tourism and hospitality during the event.

Located in the heart of the city, just half an hour from the airport and a few minutes from hotels and beaches, the ICC holds certifications in quality standards programmes, focused on service delivery, environmental management, and food safety. It has been voted Africa’s Best Convention Centre 17 times in the past 18 years.

And Durban itself has a proven track record of hosting events on the international stage, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Most recently, the Durban ICC played host to the 2022 Africa’s Travel Indaba.

Services have been restored

In the KwaZulu-Natal province, hotels, guest houses, and tourist facilities are open for business. Major roads and highways are safe and open for travel. Water has been restored in most major areas, and it is safe for drinking. More than 4,000 law enforcement officers have been deployed to support relief efforts and maintain law and order.

Recovery interventions are ongoing

A number of areas in the greater eThekwini region suffered major damage. In the affected areas, extensive work is underway to restore basic services such as water, electricity, sanitation and waste removal. Humanitarian assistance in the forms of food, water, shelter, sanitation, clothes and blankets is being provided.
