Side event 13 - EndChildLabour in the Artisanal Mineral Supply Chain: Ground-level Solutions to accelerate Impact 

Over one million children are engaged in child labour in the artisanal mineral supply chain. The sector is considered one of the most hazardous types of work and is therefore classified as one of the worst forms of child labour. Due to the commonly informal nature of most of its operations, artisanal mining leads to negative social, environmental, and governance impacts, requiring targeted solutions to safeguard children’s health, safety and future as well as contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainable development. In this context, promoting responsible minerals production and sourcing is key to creating sustainable supply chains in the respect of human rights and the environment, by empowering ground-level actors to improve their practices.

This event promotes exchange on challenges and best practices to sustain and advance efforts, policies, and commitment as well as multi-stakeholder collaboration in preventing and effectively eradicating child labour in the artisanal mineral supply chain.
