DR. Muhammad Hidayat Greenfield has been involved in worker education and training since 1995, with a focus on occupational safety, health and the environment (OSH&E). Hidayat joined the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF) in 2004 and was elected as Regional Secretary for the Asia/Pacific Regional Organization in 2016. He is responsible for IUF members in 21 countries in the region. These responsibilities include securing safe, sustainable employment for food systems workers; promoting gender equality; eliminating sexual harassment and violence against women; eliminating forced labour and child labour; and promoting sustainable agriculture and rural employment. This is undertaken through research, education and organizing as well as engagement with international and regional inter-governmental bodies and transnational companies.
The purpose of the side event is to shine a spotlight on child labour in artisanal fisheries and aquaculture.
