Second stage

The discussion on the impact of conflict and climate change on child labour will be informed by two ILO research products. Speakers will elaborate of strategies to prevent child labour during a crisis building on the ongoing humanitarian response and will address the specific situation of children associated with armed forced and groups. Panellists will also discuss about actions related to climate change and child labour, stressing the need for coherence and cooperation across stakeholders.

The panel will also discuss strategies to prevent child labour (and forced labour) during/after a crisis building on the ongoing humanitarian response and with a focus on the specific situation of children associated with armed forced and groups. Panellists will discuss the positive and negative synergies between private and public sector interventions in response to conflict, disaster, climate change and their consequences on child labour and forced labour. Lastly, panelists will highlight good examples where such work has been put in practice.

Conflicts, disasters and fragility have devastating effects on children’s lives, contributing to the wider global crisis in child protection. For SDG target 8.7 to be met serious thought and action needs to be taken to address the situation of children affected by conflict, crisis and climate change.
